About

I am currently a JSK Fellow, on leave from OpenNews where I usually manage outreach and engagement work that welcomes new people into the journalism code community and helps them learn from their peers to tackle the challenges facing journalism.

Prior to joining OpenNews, I was web editor at the Philadelphia Public School Notebook where I oversaw the Notebook's site as it became the go-to place for news and conversation about public education in Philadelphia. At the Notebook, my work ranged from ad sales and grant writing to event planning and project management, while I also developed deep knowledge of the education beat and the demands of daily reporting.

The range of experience that working on small teams affords, and requires, taught me to be intentional in planning and implementing programs. That experience has also informed my community work, including serving on the Movement Alliance Project board as president and participating in Giving Projects with Bread and Roses Community Fund. I frequently speak at conferences about leadership development, open source projects, event planning, and working at the intersection of journalism and technology. I enjoy people watching and laughing heartily.
